The Day In Pictures

Today is pretty much a "Wordless Wednesday", so I thought I would share a few pictures of The Little Munchkin from this afternoon.
Hope everyone out there had a Happy Wednesday!!

Do These Have Anything In Common????

Def Leppard and Dancing With The Stars...Do they have anything in common?

Well, I wouldn't think so, but obviously they do. Did anyone watch DWTS tonight? Def Leppard was the musical guest performing Pour Some Sugar On Me. That song brings back so many fun, awesome memories from my high school days back in the late '80's.
One thing I have learned, they can ballroom dance to just about any type of music. Tonight was proof of that one!

Terrible 2's????

Isn't it called the Terrible 2's? As I was browsing through old pictures I found these two of Kyle...he is only "1" when these incidents occured. He started a little early in this department and is still going strong.
"Am I supposed to be on the table?"
Toy Chest Trouble

Kyle is such a mischeivious little guy! He has recently been experimenting and learning all sorts of "bad" tricks...from opening doors, escaping outside through the doggie door, to taking his clothes and diaper off. Over the weekend we put grippers on the door handles...it took Kyle no time to realize what we did! Needless to say, he wasn't very happy about it! He certainly enjoys exploring and learning about his surroundings. There isn't anything wrong with that until he runs into trouble...which he obviously does quite well.

Another perfect example of one of Kyle's new discoveries.
Yes, you saw correctly...he is in the dryer!!
Below is another fine example of the Terrible 2's at work. When Kyle doesn't get his way he drops to the floor in a crying fit. His tantrums don't last very long, thankfully he usually gets over things pretty quickly. This tantrum occured because he wanted to play outside...however, this morning it was much to chilly and wet to play in the backyard.
I wanted to document these few incidents so I will have proof when he is older to show him he wasn't always my "litte angel". But through all of these trying times I must say...I still LOVE "My Little Munchkin".

All Things Kyle

I love to purchase personalized items for Kyle. Whenever, I see anything with his name I must buy it...stickers, frames, cups, blankets, wall plaque, etc. It's all so cute and I think it will be special to Kyle down the road to have these things which were made just for him. A wonderful website for personalization is Personal Creations. I'm attaching pictures of several "Kyle" items...believe me there are more, but didn't want to bore you with all of them.

Jinx

Unfortunately, I jinxed myself! I got a tad bit too carried away with the recent spring temperatures and planted a few flowers. The lows tonight and tomorrow night are forecasted to be in the mid 30's and since we are west of the city we tend to be about 3-4 degrees colder. We are expecting some frost, so now the pretty flowers have a new home for a day or two and a few others have attractive black bags over them. So sad, but if I had been a little more patient I wouldn't have these worries. Live and learn!!

My Hubby

I found this on another blog today and thought it would be fun to discuss my wonderful husband, John. Most posts tend to be about either Kyle or myself and poor John gets left out in the cold. Feel free to answer the questions and post on your own blogs. If you do, make sure and leave a comment so I can take a peek at your answers.
1. Who is your man? John 2. How long have you been together? Since August 2002 3. How long did you date? Dated long distance for 9 months. 4. How old is your man? 42…43 on Memerial Day. 5. Who eats more? I hate to admit, but we eat about the same amount. 6. Who said "I love you" first? John 7. Who is taller? I am 8. Who sings better? Well, technically neither, but would have to say I am. 9. Who is smarter? John…he knows tons of useless information and trivia. 10. Whose temper is worse? John 11. Who does the laundry? I do, although John does help sometimes. 12. Who takes out the garbage? I do, but sometimes John. 13. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? I do. 14. Who pays the bills? I do. 15. Who is better with the computer? John 16. Who mows the lawn? We both do. 17. Who cooks dinner? I do..on occasion John does. (like tonight) 18. Who drives when you are together? I do…not sure why? 19. Who pays when you go out? John 20. Who is most stubborn? John 21. Who is the first to admit when they are wrong? John 22. Whose parents do you see the most? Well, John’s parents have both passed away and mine are 700 miles away so we see them only a couple of times per year. 23. Who kissed who first? John kissed me first. 24. Who asked who out? John asked me out. 25. Who proposed? John – April 12, 2003. 26. Who is more sensitive? I am. 27. Who has more friends? I do.
28. Who has more siblings? I do, but John is an only child and my sister passed away.
I also would like to give credit to John for assisting me with all the technical support I need for my blog!

Off The Hook

Happy Friday!!
Yay, I'm off the hook for cooking dinner tonight! We are having Dewey's Pizza...super yummy! A location recently opened fairly close to home so we have been frequenting them quite a bit. The only down side is they don't deliver, but it is on John's way home from work so that's perfect. It's totally worth driving to pick it up though...beats the other pizza joints by far. You may want to check the link above to see if there is a location near you, although if there is, I'm sure you know that by now!
I'm not a total slacker today though...I did cut the grass during Kyle's nap today. One chore crossed off the list for the weekend. This gives me a little bit of exercise, plus it allows us more family time!
Enjoy your weekend!

My Other Child

Chloe and I have been together for 11 years. She is the cutest, sweetest dog, but she sure is high maintenance! At times, I feel as though she requires more attention than Kyle. I have always treated Chloe as if she is my "daughter", so I guess it's somewhat my fault since I've spoiled her.
She has been through quite a bit and cost a pretty penny through the years...from surgery on her two back legs, allergy testing, grooming every 5-6 weeks, and the usual pet care required. She is beginning to have minor kidney issues and requires a special diet so at the moment this is a top concern of mine. She had a check up last week at the vet for various tests and a senior physical exam. She was also scheduled for a vaccination, but since I am a bad Mommy, I failed to give her Benadryl before her appointment so we had to reschedule until tomorrow. In the past Chloe has had an allergic reaction to certain shots so a Benadryl dose is always a prerequisite to her vaccination appointments. The vet and I didn't want to take the risk of a reaction so we will try again tomorrow.
I have a "Chloe to do" list for tonight and in the morning. John just went to pick up the Benadryl at the store, she has to fast for 12 hours, and also we need to bring in a sample, which is always loads of fun to collect in the morning. The sample from last week was inconclusive due to fat in the blood stream...guess what that is caused from??? Kyle feeding Chloe. I'm going to have to start locking Chloe up when Kyle is eating since she is getting "busted" by the vet. The game between brother and sister will need to come to end...how sad for both of them. I guess the time has come for me to start cleaning up the kitchen floor instead of Chloe. Hopefully, all her testing will be completed and all the results will be good...especially for her kidneys.
Chloe can be a handful, but she is certainly worth it all ! I love this little dog so very much!
I know all the dog lovers out there can understand. Pets become such a special part of the family.
Isn't Chloe just the cutest thing???

Guilty Conscience

Late Monday night before John and I headed off to bed Chloe (our dog) was MIA. We searched inside the house high and low and there were no signs of her. We finally found her in the very back of the yard in the pitch dark, so I knew something got her attention. John went on the mission to find out what was so interesting to Chloe...only to find a litter of bunnies covered by pine needles. At 11:30pm at night we are torn...do we leave the bunnies or move them from our yard?
The reason this poses such a problem is we would need to ban Chloe and Kyle from the backyard until the bunnies are big enough to be on their own. Keeping a dog and a very curious toddler (who I'm sure would have discovered the bunnies) out of the yard for a questionable amount of time would be impossible, especially in this beautiful weather.
A few years ago, I had a not so pleasant experience with a litter of bunnies in our yard. It was the one and only night John was traveling for work so I was home alone. (This was pre Kyle). I walked into our bedroom to find some rat looking creatures on our floor and freaked out...I had no clue what these things were. I ran across the street to get assistance from my neighbor who came to my rescue. He had no idea what they were either so we disposed of them. I locked Chloe out of the yard until John returned home the following night about midnight. When John got home he took a look and discovered they were bunnies. To this day, I still can't believe Chloe brought three baby bunnies into the house. She was extremely protective of these bunnies and was very upset to see them go...I guess her motherly instinct took over.
Back to the present...John and I decided to move the bunnies under a tree not in our backyard. I couldn't take the chance that Chloe would want to protect the bunnies and bring them inside. My guilty conscience has been working overtime because I can't seem to get these poor bunnies off my mind. I have been checking on them a few time a day and they are huddled together and still alive. I'm sure the mamma bunny isn't taking care of them since the babies were tampered with. I do hope they will survive and will be OK, although I do have to say our neighborhood doesn't necessarily need any more bunnies.
Did we make the right or wrong decision? Given the circumstances would you have done the same thing? Are we really terrible people since we did this?
I did take a couple of pictures of the bunnies for all to see...it is amazing how much they have grown in just a short period of time.

The Odyssey Begins!

John and I accomplished so much work in our yard today. It is a ton of work, but so worth it in the end. This is only the beginning...our list of projects is continuous. It's a good thing, we both enjoy working outside and we make a great team! We made three huge trips to Home Depot this morning to purchase all our supplies....50 bags of mulch, 16 bags of rock, 4 hibiscus bushes, 2 petunia baskets, and marigolds. Believe it or not, we completed all of the projects we set out to do today, including mowing the grass. What a tremendous accomplishment!

Earthquake

OMG...early Friday morning about 4:30a.m. our bed started to shake. At first I thought my husband was shivering since I like to sleep with the room really cold. We were both awake and my husband said "I think we just had an earthquake." Chloe, our dog, ran under the bed and soon after Kyle woke up whining. The only item we could find out of place was a glass in our china cabinet, but eveything else seems fine. Very scary!!
The strange thing is my husband and I were just talking about earthquakes a few weeks ago and I was asking him if it was possible to have one here in St. Louis. Too weird!!
Any other readers experienced earthquakes..if so where and how horrible was it? I have attached a Yahoo news story below, but I'm sure there will be plenty of other articles as well.
ETA (Edited to Add): At 10:15 a.m. there was a 4.5 aftershock. I was in the exam room at the vet's office so I didn't feel this one. I also heard there were 5 other aftershocks before 7 a.m. this morning, but since they were less than a 3.5 they were not felt.
As the saying goes, "There's a first time for everything."

Oh Wow...

What a fabulous day!!
The weather today was absolutely fantastic and Kyle and I certainly made the most of it!! This morning, we met one of Kyle's playgroup friends for a nice stroll. It was so great to finally get out and about and enjoy the sunshine, breeze, and listen to the birds chirping.
This afternoon after naptime, we had a playdate with one of my very good friends from high school, Lorie and her son Everett. Everett is almost a year older than Kyle, but the two of them seem to have such fun together. We played outside the entire afternoon and took a long long walk around the lake in our neighborhood....watched the ducks and just enjoyed the beautiful day.
Kyle just having a great time!
Lorie is the very reason I am very happily married and have migrated to the midwest. She introduced John and me, since John is good friends with her husband. Hopefully, soon she will be moving closer to us so we can spend more time together with the boys.
Once it was time for our friends to head home Everett was hugging everyone good bye which was so sweet. Kyle then walked up to Everett and gave him a hug...this was so awesome to watch. I practically had tears in my eyes since this is the first true hug he has given to a friend. I am just so disappointed with myself since I didn't have the camera to capture this special moment...Bad Mommy!

John and I also had a meeting this afternoon in regards to preschool for Kyle when he turns 3 in October. It is a transition process and I was relieved to finally have the meeting and get a few questions answered. The preschool sounds great and is through our local school district. We will have a few more meetings and tests between now and October, but so thankful the process has begun.

Hope everyone out there had a wonderful day as well!!

Out With The Old...

My husband and I are in the process of doing some much needed "spring cleaning" and preparing for a garage sale in a few weeks. We have bins and bins of baby boy clothes that we recently organized and sorted by size. We do have a tendancy to over buy for Kyle...it is so hard to resist the cute clothes. Since I don't have a problem finding adorable boy clothes I would really be in trouble if I had a girl! We are keeping several outfits and shoes for sentimental value that I can't bear to part with. The pictures below will give you an idea of the quantity of clothes and shoes we have collected in two and half years.

A "few" wonderful deals for some lucky people.

I thought only women were addicted to shoes!
My husband is antsy to clear things out that we no longer use, which is fine by me since it will add more space to purchase new things. Yesterday, a friend of mine gave me heads up about a children’s picnic table for sale on Craig’s List. Of course, the minute Kyle woke up from his nap we headed to purchase the table. I also bought Kyle a toddler size trampoline which he will certainly enjoy. I have attached a couple of pictures of my new “bargains”.
In With The New...
Perfect spot for a nice picnic, read a book, or just take a break...
oh, wait, Kyle doesn't know how to take a break!

Kyle had to make sure the trampoline was in working order!

Any other bloggers addicted to Craig's List? I love the "instant gratification" you get from CL. I know tons of people really enjoy Ebay, but I'm not sure I have the patience to bid and wait days to see if I won and then, if so, wait for the item to be shipped. I realize, you can find some great deals on Ebay though. I guess, when I find something, I want it "right away".

Week Of The Young Child

April 14th -18th is The Week Of The Young Child. It is a week to celebrate "your child". Kyle's preschool has a fun theme each day this week. Since Kyle only attends two days per week he will be participating in P.J. Day on Wednesday. It will be a huge pajama party and the children will dress in their P.J.'s and also bring one of their favorite sleep items. Friday is Color Day...children will show their class spirit by wearing the color of their room. Kyle is in the "Lemon Room" so he will definitely be wearing yellow.
Kyle made necklaces for Mommy and Daddy, which we are both wearing this week.
Necklaces
Last week posters were passed out to decorate and are being displayed in the hallway at school. Mommy decorated the poster with all of Kyle's favorite things...cars, trains, and blocks.
All About Me Poster
Fun times ahead for Kyle at school this week. It is very exciting for Mommy and Daddy to participate in Kyle's first official school activity as well. We are preparing early for many more years to come of these type of activities. The preschool is also hosting a Scholastic Book Fair all week so Mommy will certainly be shopping at the book fair on Wednesday since Kyle is such a little book worm these days.

Balloons For Ethan

For many months, I have been following the story of a little boy named Ethan Powell who had leukemia. Last week Ethan passed away and today at 3p.m. his parents asked everyone to release a blue balloon from their home in his memory. Below are a couple of pictures of the balloon released here in Missouri. This story really touched me not only because he was an infant, but seven years ago I lost my older sister to leukemia.

Must look closely, but you can see the balloon in the center of the picture.

While He Was Sleeping

Well, technically, Kyle should have been sleeping, but instead he was having a good 'ole time. I went to take a peek to find out what was going on and this is what I find!! LOL. I couldn't resist getting a picture.
This is one of Kyle's new found favorites....taking off any clothes with zippers. The pajamas he "had" on zipped up the front so I should have known this would eventually happen. Well, he is put back together and all is quiet in his room.

Wow...

I can't believe that Michael Johns was sent home on American Idol!! I thought he was very good, although not the best. My favorite is David Archuleta...I think he would be a "True" American Idol.
If you watch Idol, who is your favorite Idol this season???

Is It A Dog?

No, It's My Little Munchkin!
It is such a gloomy, rainy day, so we are hanging at home today. Obviously, Kyle wanted to play in the rain since he attempted to escape out Chloe’s doggie door. I assume since he has dogs on his pajamas he thought it was necessary to act like a dog! He was having a blast and in the meantime getting drenched, but that added to the fun. Yes, I am bored as well and attempted to go outside and take a picture of his face, but Kyle wouldn’t cooperate, but you get the “picture”. It has been a slow week without much to say, but hoping things will pick up soon!! Hope everyone is having a great week and hopefully you have nice weather in your neck of the woods! I may begin thinking about doing a post about “100 Things About Me” which I have seen on numerous blogs. I may cheat a little and do two separate posts with 50 things. We shall see if I’m really that interesting of a person to come up with that many things!

Heavy On My Mind

This is a topic I honestly think about many times a day…having a Second Child. I have one son, “My Little Munchkin”, who is 2 ½. I was experiencing a wonderful pregnancy with Kyle and at 24 weeks my water unexpectedly broke and I gave birth to my son six days later at 25 weeks gestation. He weighed 1 lb. 10 oz. was 12 inches long and spent 86 days in the NICU. He had a few ups and downs during his journey, but is now happy and healthy with only developmental delays. I say “only” because I know things could have turned out to be much worse and he is definitely making huge and exciting strides in his progress. My husband and I both come from very small families. My husband is an only child and both his parents have passed away. My parents live out of state and my one older sister has passed away. I worry about my son growing up with little to no family down the road. The thought of this just breaks my heart!
Since we got married, we always planned on having two children and I know Kyle would love having a younger sibling. I am 38 years old and my husband is soon to be 43, so we are definitely in the higher age bracket for conceiving and we’re not getting any younger. There are lots of “risks” to consider. After our unexpected turn of events with our last pregnancy I am so afraid to have another baby. Going into a high risk pregancy from the beginning is very scary! I have known and read many stories of other women who had preemies who went on to experience a full term pregnancy. There are so many components to think about…such as having a healthy pregnancy and having a happy and healthy full term baby. We are in the midst of thinking about this and will need to decide within this next year. Of course, I will need to have a heart to heart talk with doctors to determine the best plan of action. If you are reading and happen to have any advice, suggestions, or words of encouragement please feel free to share. Ultimately, I realize the decison is up to my husband and me, but felt I needed to get the subject out in the “open”. I will certainly keep my blog readers posted with what hubby and I decide is best for all three of us.
I have also posted this thread on BabyCenter.

Snip, Snip, Snip

Yesterday, while Daddy was "hanging with the guys" (see Go Furies) Mommy took Kyle to get his haircut. We take him to Snip Its, a fun, cute place just for kids to have their haircut...they have tv's at each station so this helps to hold their attention. Several times, we have seen children that are screaming and crying, but believe it or not Kyle is very well behaved. It definitely makes the process so much faster and less painful for all involved.
Kyle always looks so grown up after he has his haircut. Below is an "after" picture taken in the car on the way home. Isn't he just too cute?? Well, I sure think so, but I'm just a little biased...that's what Mommy's are for!

Go Furies!!

For the past 21 years John has been involved with a Rotisserie Baseball League. Today was their all day player auction. Weeks and weeks ahead of time John “studies” to determine which players will comprise his team. He pours over books, statistics on the Internet, and then puts together his spreadsheets to take to the auction. He still takes this very seriously even after 21 years. The Baseball Furies is the name of his team, named after the baseball gang in the movie The Warriors. Has anyone seen this movie??? I can honestly say I haven’t and have no desire to! Kyle was running around the house the other day with this DVD and I was wondering why we had this movie… now I know. I’m not a huge baseball fan, but always secretly hope that The Furies do extremely well since first, second, and third place is cash!! As you can see in the pictures below the guys really get into the baseball league…way back when, John actually had a baseball jersey made with his team name, which he wears every year to the auction. Anyone else have a boyfriend or husband that is involved in a baseball league…or any other sport for that matter??? I’ve heard even some women are in leagues so maybe some of the women readers actually are involved in leagues as well.

Scrapbooking Crop

A little over a year ago I discovered a new hobby... scrapbooking!! It sure is fun, yet expensive! In the past year, I have completed one scrapbook for My Little Munchkin starting from his birth through Christmas '06. I'm slowly making my way through '07 and am only about a third of the way through the year. I sure do have a long way to go, plus I have an entire scrapbook to put together from our family vacation to Gatlinburg, TN. and The Smokey Mountains this past September. I truly hope Kyle will one day appreciate my efforts to organize his pictures and fun times in such an adorable way!!
Last night I did attend a Creative Memories crop and was able to get a little bit of work completed. It's always fun to have "my time" away, yet feel like I'm getting something accomplished for my son.
How many of you in the blog world are interested in scrapbooking? Do you do traditional scrapbooking or digital scrapbooking?

Friendly Fun!!

My Little Munchkin had a great morning! We hosted a playgroup at our house for a couple of Kyle's friends. We have been involved with a small neighborhood playgroup for a couple of years and get together on a weekly basis for the kiddos to play and the moms to talk!! Is playgroup really for the children or is it for the moms????
Allie, Grant, and Kyle had such a fun time playing together this morning...especially with the bubbles. We have a new bubble machine that creates bubbles inside of huge bubbles. I'm sure we will get a ton of use from the machine especially once we can head outside to play on a regular basis.

Bills, Bills, Bills

These are completely random thoughts and questions.
As I'm sitting here paying bills and balancing the checkbook I was wondering if the majority of women/wifes or the men/husbands pay the bills? I am in charge of paying the bills and I like it that way! This way I know the bills are being paid and mailed. My husband would always tease me, saying I would wait by the mailbox with the checkbook to pay the bills that arrived that day. Sad, but true, it wasn't far from the truth. Since we had a child things have changed a bit in that department, but everything gets paid in time...especially the internet bill. I couldn't live without internet access!
Ok, a couple of other "random" thoughts popped into my head as I was typing...
Is your mailbox on the street or by your front door? When I was growing up in New Orleans the majority of mailboxes are by the front door, but here in St. Louis the mailboxes are by the street. That definitely took some getting used to after moving...just call me lazy!
Also, do you pay bills by check or on line? I do both, but I wouldn't mind paying everything on line since it is so much easier and less time consuming.
Just some tid bits of information I would find interesting from my readers if you would like to leave a comment.

My Little Computer Nerd

I’m afraid we may have another “computer nerd” on our hands. I say "another" because Daddy is a software geek….I mean engineer (LOL). Actually it would be nice to have two computer experts under one roof.
Kyle has been fascinated with Mommy and Daddy’s laptops. I’m always so afraid he is going to damage or break one of our computers so I came up with a brilliant idea. Why not get Kyle his very first laptop. While Kyle was at school this morning Mommy went shopping…Yeah!! Kyle now has an adorable Vtech Tote & Go Laptop Plus!! It features many activities to teach language, math, and music. The laptop is probably “above” Kyle’s skill level at this time, but it will be a great toy for him to grow into and in the meantime keeps Mommy and Daddy’s computers safe from his little hands….at least that is the plan!! Included are a couple of pictures of Kyle checking out his new computer. He already seems to love it so it was a great purchase!!
