Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR. SEUSS!

Kyle's preschool classroom will be celebrating Dr. Seuss's Birthday this week...March 2-5, 2009. Each day the class will be doing a "Study of Seuss"....which means they will be reading books written by Dr. Seuss. Kyle has several books at home he will bring to school to share with the class...Green Eggs and Ham, The Lorax, and Oh, The Places You'll Go! The class will also be doing various large and small group activities related to Dr. Seuss books...such as playing rhyming games and balancing objects like The Cat in the Hat. Wednesday is Wear Your Favorite Shoes Day and they will be reading The Foot Book. Each child is asked to wear their favorite pair of shoes this day. Unfortunately, Kyle doesn't really have a favorite pair of shoes, considering for the winter months he only has two pairs. He does have a pair of Thomas the Train tennis shoes that light up when he walks which are a little big for him that he always wants to wear so I assume those will be the shoes he wears on Wednesday.

I remember reading Dr. Seuss books as a child. A couple of books I enjoyed were Green Eggs and Ham and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Did you read Dr. Seuss when you were a child...if so what were your favorites? What are your children's favorite books by Dr. Seuss?

Nice Surprise

While I was browsing in the bookstore this morning I was excited to see a new release by Nicholas Sparks titled The Lucky One. I have thoroughly enjoyed his previous books and I'm sure this one won't disappoint. I have plenty of books on my to-be-read pile it's overwhelming, but this may need to sneak up to the top of the pile. I really would like to go see Nights In Rodanthe, the movie based from the Nicholas Sparks book. I'm sure it is a great movie! Has anyone seen this movie or read the new book?

Calling All Toddler Moms

I recently finished reading Naptime Is The New Happy Hour. The author has such a light-hearted, laugh out loud funny, way of describing day to day life with a toddler. I certainly enjoyed the book and could relate to the topics which were discussed. I don't want to go into many details in case some you may want to read the book.
The author also wrote Sippycups Are Not for Chardonnay, which outlines the first year of a child's life. I haven't read this book, but it should be a good read for any new mom's out there. I also want John to read this book...it seems right up his alley! If he does, I will be sure he gives a little review for everyone.
Happy Reading!

Table Time

Kyle really likes a lot of things, but books and puzzles rank somewhere at the top...especially books and puzzles with sound. People may judge me as a bad Mommy, but I let Kyle watch a little TV everyday. Dora the Explorer and Thomas the Train are favorites, along with the Wonder Pets. A few weeks back I discovered these really cool, fun books...Dora and Thomas Sound Puzzle Books. I felt as though I hit the jackpot because it was multitude of his favorites wrapped up into one. How could I pass these up? I couldn't and Kyle was sure glad I didn't because he loves his new puzzles and books, as you will be able to see in the photos below.
Each day, we attempt to have what we call table time. Kyle will sit at the table and read a book, work on puzzles, play with toys, etc. He is so attentive and focused during this time and I feel it does him good to have some "down" time from running around. He may not really think it's down time since the camera isn't too far away. Poor little guy...he can't get away from that camera, but for some reason he still loves his Mommy!

This is a classic shot of Kyle. When he is really
concentrating he has his tongue out. Looking at Dora...isn't she a cutie?
Really focused and working hard.

All Booked Up

I LOVE to read. I'm excited because a few of my favorite authors are releasing new books in the next couple of months. I recently pre-ordered these books through Amazon so hopefully they will be delivered on the release date. I do admit I read a ton of chick lit...to me it is very entertaining. I do also enjoy reading books about raising children/toddlers and also read books associated with various needs for Kyle.
Jennifer Weiner's new book, "Certain Girls" will be released on April 8th. Other books I would recommend by her are "Little Earthquakes" and
"Goodnight Nobody".
Another great chick lit author is Emily Giffin. Her new book, "Love the One You're With", will be released on May 13th. Other good reads by her are "Something Borrowed", "Something Blue", and "Baby Proof".
Sophie Kinsella is another great author with many great books. Her latest "Remember Me" was released in February and I throughly enjoyed the book...I read it in a weekend. Other books by her are the Shopaholic series which I found extremely entertaining.
These are a few of my suggestions for those of you heading to the beach this summer and are looking for the perfect "beach read". I love to relax and read when My Little Munchkin is napping...he better not outgrow his nap anytime soon!
To my blog readers...Please feel free to share any author/book recommendations you may have..I'm always looking for new books, authors, etc...plus I have a Border's gift card to use! Thanks!
